Gulf States to Ban Blackberry Handsets

Showing nationwide security fears, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has declared that it will immediately prohibit using electronic mail, web browsing and communication through messaging from the Blackberry smart cell phones.

The United Arab Emirates is to obstruct sending e-mails, accessing the on line service and sending instant messages to other blackberry handsets. This is mainly declared to protect the states from offense, crime and terrorism.

Another state that will prevent instant messaging to other Blackberry handsets is Saudi Arab. As these states cannot keep an eye on the encrypted information being sent this ban is declared. Inhabitants of both the nations are unhappy by hearing this news.

UAE will ban using these Blackberry smart phones from this October itself but Saudi Arab will start acting accordingly from later this month or sometimes later. Approximately there are 500,000 Blackberry users in the UAE and 400,000 Blackberry users in Saudi Arab.

Earlier also it was said that United Arab Emirates (UAE) could take a step further to control or ban blackberry cell phones as they pose a nationwide protection risk.

A year after the UAE’S failed effort to download spy ware on Blackberries, the government is still not pleased because it cannot keep an eye on e-mails sent and received by blackberry users. But media says that an out-and-out ban on these smart phones will be controversial.
